I was running in the dark and squinting to see anything. The dim flashlight provided little help beyond the small circle it illuminated. In the dream everything was gray and hazy – mere shadows. I couldn’t see where I was going. I didn’t know what was beyond the next step. Suddenly, I realized I could turn my flashlight brighter with just the flip of a switch. Everything was instantly illuminated. I could see the trees and houses around me. I knew where I was going!
I thank God for dreams like these. Dreams that aren’t crazy. Dreams that don’t drive me crazy trying to figure out what the Lord’s showing me. And this is one we can all learn from!
Oftentimes in life we are running in the dark trying to figure out which way to go, what decision to make, where we are headed. We’re squinting at the gray haze in front of us and nothing seems clear about the future. But we have the power to change that! We have the tools God gave us: His Holy Spirit and His word. We just have to use them. It’s as simple as flipping on a switch!
If we want more of His Holy Spirit all we have to do is ask!
11 “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead?12 Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” (Luke 11:11-12 NLT)
Just ASK!
The Holy Spirit is a teacher, a comforter, a guide. He reveals things to come. He knows what the future holds. He knows which way we should go. Why aren’t we asking for more of him! Why aren’t we using him to His full potential?
Jesus said “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.” (John 16:13-14)
Are you squinting to see your way through the haze? Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate your path. Ask for more of him. Ask him to fill you. God’s word promises if we ask for more of the Holy Spirit he will gladly give it to us!
